Sinopse

Dentro de um ônibus, durante uma viagem noturna do interior de Goiás à Brasília, eu testemunhei o surto de uma mulher que viajava com três filhos. Eu estava lá quando o ônibus virou sua casa. Essa palestra-performance, é um modo de contar o que salvei na memória. Rita e seus meninos permaneceram calados atrás dos meus olhos e hoje vou falar.

Synopsis

Inside a bus, during a nighttime journey from the countryside of Goiás to Brasília, I witnessed the breakdown of a woman traveling with three children. I was there when the bus became her home. This lecture-performance is a way of telling what I preserved in memory. Rita and her boys remained silent behind my eyes—and today I speak.

TRANSCRIÇÃO DO ÁUDIO: Uma amiga me convidou para a gente criar uma palestra performance juntas.
Eu aceitei assim, ingenuamente, disse sim.
Aí começou a confusão.
O que é palestra performance? Por que fazer essa palestra performance?
Sobre o que eu vou falar? Eu me apresento como o quê? Palestra de quê?
Confusão, conversação, dorme com esse barulho, acorda com esse barulho, começa a criar, chama Alice para dirigir e as coisas vão acontecendo.
E eu, um pouco travada, porque gostando, gostando do que eu estava criando, gostando do que elas duas estavam criando junto, enfim, mas tinha uma coisinha travada e era, e é ainda, o receio de me apresentar como performer pela primeira vez na vida.

Desde sempre eu trabalho com dança, depois não tanto tempo assim, mas com teatro também. Mas eu nunca criei nada para a cena. Eu sequer acompanhei processos de criação.
E esse era um dos pontos, e esse é um dos pontos da palestra de performance. Eu queria saber como é que isso acontece.

E tinha que pensar que história eu ia contar.
E aí eu tenho a lembrança de uma viagem que eu fiz no miolo do Brasil, entre Goiás e Brasília, uma história que eu nunca esqueci, que eu resolvi contar.
E é isso que vocês vão ver.
Uma história superforte que eu nunca esqueci.

Transcripton: A friend invited me to create a lecture-performance together.
I accepted, somewhat naively — I just said yes.
And then the confusion began.
What is a lecture-performance? Why create a lecture-performance?
What am I going to talk about? How do I introduce myself? A lecture about what?

Confusion, conversation, sleep with that noise in your head, wake up with that noise in your head, start creating, invite Alice to direct, and things begin to happen.

And I felt a bit stuck — even though I was enjoying it, enjoying what I was creating, enjoying what the two of them were creating with me — but there was something blocked. And it was, and still is, the fear of presenting myself as a performer for the first time in my life.
I’ve always worked with dance, and later — not that much later — with theater as well. But I had never created anything for the stage. I had never even followed creative processes closely.

And that was one of the points — and still is one of the points — of the lecture-performance. I wanted to understand how this happens.
And I had to think about what story I was going to tell.

Then I remembered a trip I took to the heart of Brazil, between Goiás and Brasília — a story I never forgot, and decided to share.
And that’s what you’re going to see.
A very powerful story that I have never forgotten.

Sonia Sobral é gestora cultural de artes cênicas e curadora. Em 2016, cria a performance Involuntários da Pátria com a atriz Fernanda Silva. Em Rita 9.11 experimenta, pela primeira vez, o lugar de performer. Com ela estão Dinah de Oliveira, teórica de teatro e professora da UFRJ e Alice Nogueira, diretore, dramaturgue e performer.

Short biography

Sonia Sobral is a cultural manager in the performing arts and a curator. In 2016, she created the performance Involuntários da Pátria with actress Fernanda Silva. In Rita 9.11, she experiments for the first time with the role of performer. Working alongside her are Dinah de Oliveira, theater theorist and professor at UFRJ, and Alice Nogueira, director, dramaturg, and performer.
